How should I care for my denture or partial?

Proper care of your denture or partial is essential to maintain its longevity, ensure your oral health and keep your smile looking its best. Dr Legin recommends establishing a consistent daily cleaning routine to protect your investment.

Home Care for Your Denture

Remove and rinse your denture or partial after eating to wash away food particles and debris. Clean it thoroughly at least once daily using a soft-bristled brush designed specifically for dentures and a non-abrasive denture cleanser—avoid regular toothpaste, as it can be too harsh and cause scratches that harbour bacteria. Handle your denture carefully over a folded towel or basin of water to prevent damage if you accidentally drop it.

When you're not using your appliance, store it in lukewarm water or a denture-cleaning solution to prevent it from drying and losing its shape. Never use hot water, as this can cause warping.

Continue caring for your natural teeth, gums and tongue by brushing them gently each day, even if you wear a full denture. This removes plaque, stimulates circulation and helps maintain oral health.
